The History Of Wigs.

Wigs have dated back as far back as the Egyptians as a indication of a persons status as well as their role in society and politics. With a risk of infestation of lice this was also a reason to shave your hair and wear wigs. There where also other benefits to shaving off your hair and wearing wigs such as having a bald head in scorching hot weather would be much more comfortable than having a full head of hair but also wearing a wig would protect a bald head from being sun burnt. Egyptians though preferred to wear wigs resulting in there creation of human, sheep wool and vegetable fibre wigs, depending on there social status. Female wigs where decorated with different hair accessories such as hair-rings and ivory ornaments and have braids. The more fancier the wigs the higher status you where.

Although there where other societies and cultures who wore wigs, Egyptians are well known for there makeup choices and wig creations. Today wigs are used in pop culture, fashion and performance. Depending on your budget and reason there are cheap synthetic wigs for such things as halloween and school plays and then real hair wigs made for movie stars and performers which can cost hundreds.
